About Peach Moonstone

Peach Moonstone is a warm-coloured variety of moonstone belonging to the feldspar family. Its colour ranges from pale peach and apricot to orange, cream and pinkish-beige, often with a soft internal glow known as adularescence. Moonstone’s characteristic sheen is caused by light scattering from microscopic layers or intergrowths within the feldspar. As light enters the stone, it is reflected and scattered by these internal structures, producing the soft floating glow associated with moonstone. Peach Moonstone is commonly composed of potassium-rich feldspar, although the exact feldspar composition can vary between specimens and deposits. Its peach colour is generally associated with trace impurities and fine inclusions within the feldspar. Unlike some white or blue-flash moonstones, Peach Moonstone often shows a warmer, softer sheen rather than a strong blue flash. It is popular in polished forms such as spheres, palmstones, towers, cabochons and jewellery because its warm colour and gentle glow become especially attractive when polished.

From the Earth

How it forms

The geological processes that create this crystal over time.

Formation

Its geological story

Peach Moonstone forms in feldspar-rich igneous rocks, especially granites and pegmatites. During cooling, microscopic feldspar layers or intergrowths can develop inside the crystal. These internal structures scatter light and create the soft floating sheen known as adularescence. Trace impurities and inclusions can give the material its characteristic peach, apricot and orange colouring.

Scientific notes

Peach Moonstone is a colour variety of moonstone rather than a separate mineral species. Moonstone is usually associated with potassium-rich feldspar showing adularescence caused by microscopic internal layering. The exact feldspar composition can vary between deposits, so not every specimen sold as Peach Moonstone will have identical chemistry. Its warm colour is different from the optical sheen: the peach colour comes from the material itself, while adularescence is caused by the way light interacts with its internal structure.
